Powerball - Number Sums

This report shows the sum total for each winning number combination. We add up the total for all the individual lottery balls in a winning combination which have been chosen in the past 29* drawings.

We give you two different sum totals because you have two number groups to consider and some people think the sum of the five white balls without the Powerball should be the sum for the numbers. Others obviously think it goes the other way and want to include the full six numbers in the sum total. Who are we to argue, we give you both so you can decide which works best for you.

Let's look at an example and explain how to read the table. For clarity we will include the individual ticket data on the example, however we remove this data from the actual report.

Looking at drawing number one in our example you can see that we have a Sum Total Five of 178. This number is derived from adding the white lottery balls together. 4 + 31 + 41 + 47 + 55 = 178. As you can see we are not adding the Powerball to our total. SUM Five is only the five white lottery balls.

Draw Sum Total Five Winning Ticket Numbers
1 178 4 - 31 - 41 - 47 - 55 - 1
2 174 17 - 29 - 31 - 48 - 49 - 34
3 131 5 - 15 - 16 - 46 - 49 - 26

Now it should be obvious that the SUM Total Six is just the addition of the five white lottery balls and Powerball ball. So you will now have 179 for our example above. This number comes from adding 4 + 31 + 41 + 47 + 55 + 1 = 179. As you can see we are adding the Powerball to our total. SUM Six includes all the numbers.

Side by Side Sums

Here you can see a quick side by side comparison using only the five white balls and then with all six balls. We do not include the winning ticket information but the same drawings are used.

We also give you the delta of the two sums, which really just equates to the Powerball! Hey it's handy in this case to be able to see it at a glance.

* For our non-member visitors and members who are no logged in, we randomly choose the number of past lottery drawings to use in our statistics each time you visit or refresh the page. This number can be modified if you are a member so that you can choose more or less drawings for your customized lottery analysis.

** If this is not the most recent lottery drawing date, give us a little time to update our records, then check back.

*** For large results we limit the table to display only the last 20 lottery drawings otherwise the table/page would be too large. Imagin what this would look like if you were using the last 500 drawings in your analysis. We do use the total number of choices in the analysis, we just do not display them all in the table of recient drawings.
